selfie

Question =
By 2013, the word "selfie" had become commonplace enough to be monitored for inclusion in the online version of the Oxford English Dictionary. In November 2013, the word "selfie" was announced as being the "word of the year" by the Oxford English Dictionary, which gave the word itself an Australian origin. Who coined the term 'selfie' ?

Answer =
Nathan Hope.
The first known use of the word selfie in any paper or electronic medium appeared in an Australian internet forum on 13 September 2002. In Karl Kruszelnicki's 'Dr Karl Self-Serve Science Forum', a post by Nathan Hope.

However, Philadelphia chemist and photography fan called  Robert Cornelius, a pioneer in photography, produced a daguerreotype of himself in 1839 (took the first known selfie back in 1839)  which is also one of the first photographs of a person. Because the process was slow he was able to uncover the lens, run into the shot for a minute or more, and then replace the lens cap. On the back he wrote “The first light Picture ever taken. 1839.”.

Several mobile phones released in late 2003 introduced front-facing cameras, including the Sony Ericsson Z1010 first iPhone to include a front-facing camera module That was intentional, though, whereas the front-facing camera, the Sony Ericsson Z1010 in 2003, seems to have been one of those features that uncovered a consumer desire pretty much by accident.
