Leander Paes started his Davis Cup career in 1990 at the young age of 16, when he partnered Zeeshan Ali in doubles to beat the Japanese team in a grueling five-set encounter.  Zeeshan Ali was a consistent part of the Indian Davis cup team from 1987-1994. He was also part of squad that reached the finals against Sweden in 1987. After quitting competitive tennis in 1995, Zeeshan moved his base to Dubai. He set up his own tennis academy there. He was also selected to be the National Tennis Coach of the UAE Davis Cup team.
